“Femme Forte” – Strong Women

What were you doing when you were 20 years old? If you were exhibiting at your solo show, then kudos to you. That’s exactly what the young creative Brydie Watson is up to in Byron Bay tonight, at the iconic surf house McTavish.

The photographs form a collection of portraits Brydie has made of the women in her community who inspire, motivate and are mentors to her. Singling out her mentor/boss/queen, Alice Roberts, stylist and owner of Brahminy Exchange in particular.

Brydie set out to further connect with and celebrate these women in her life whom she looked up to as role models and pillars of support.

Shot entirely on black and white 35mm from her trusty Nikon F4, Brydie promises a raw and simple body of work, capturing the warmth of her wonderful women subjects. Short interviews with each woman will be presented alongside the photographs.

Brydie started shooting film at 16 documenting her weekend adventures in Byron, and after various impressive side ventures has settled into photography, styling and creative direction to satiate her creative desires.

Brydie can’t live without chocolate, music and sleep. She suggests you listen to these three sisterly songs to get in the mood for her show:

He’s The Greatest Dancer – Sister Sledge

Got Your Money – Kelis & ODB

Be My Baby – The Ronettes
