DESCRIPTION

Our Magnetic Essentials Filter Kit Plus+ brings ease to your creative flow with a convenient stackable, magnetic system. Our UV Filter Plus+ cuts ultraviolet light, sharpens your photos, and protects your lens against scratches, water, dirt, and fingerprints. Our CPL Polarizing Filter Plus+ cuts reflected (polarized) light, which increases contrast and boosts colour saturation and vibrancy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a UV filter do?

UV filters sharpen your photos and protect your lens.

By cutting UV light’s blue haze, our UV Filters improve sharpness and clarity in your photographs, and protect your camera lens from scratches, dirt, dust, and grime. Using a UV filter doesn’t affect your camera settings, which means you can leave it on your lens at all times.

Which UV filter should I buy?

Let the quality of your lens guide your choice. Or simply go for the best – our professional Plus+ range.

Urth has two different ranges of filters: Urth (our premium range) and Urth Plus+ (our professional range). Let the quality of your lens guide your decision. If you’ve invested in a professional-quality lens, we recommend you match its quality with our Plus+ range. Our Urth range is the perfect option for all other standards of lens.

Who should use a UV filter?

Beginners, amateurs, professionals – anyone who wants sharper images.

A UV filter cuts ultraviolet light to sharpen your images and protects your lens against scratches, oil, knocks, and water.

How does a UV filter sharpen my photos?

By cutting out ultraviolet light’s blue haze.

UV light’s blue haze softens details and image quality, especially on hazy days. Our range of UV filters cuts our 99.6% of ultraviolet light for sharper details.

Which range of UV filters is best for telephoto lenses?

Our Plus+ range is best for telephoto lenses.

Because of the amount of glass in a telephoto lens, opting for the best quality UV filter will help you capture sharp, high-quality images and protect your lens.

Which range of CPL should I buy?

Let the quality of your lens guide your choice. Or simply go for the best – our professional Plus+ range.

Urth has two different ranges of filters: Urth (our premium range) and Urth Plus+ (our professional range). Let the quality of your lens guide your decision. If you’ve invested in a professional-quality lens, we recommend you match its quality with our Plus+ range. Our Urth range is the perfect option for all other standards of lens.

How do I get the most out of my CPL?

Use the 90-degree rule, then back it off a bit.

To achieve the strongest polarization possible, the reflected light source needs to be at 90-degrees to your CPL. To check this, make an L-shape using your thumb and index finger. Point your thumb at the lens and wherever your index finger is pointed, that is the angle that will achieve maximum polarisation. Sometimes at full polarization, the effect can look unrealistic so we suggest you back it off a bit for a slightly softer polarization.

Can I use your CPL with wide-angle and telephoto lenses?

Yes, we recommend our Plus+ range for telephoto lenses.

Make sure you have the right size filter and you’re all set. All our filters are designed with a super slim rim to minimise any vignetting that can occur with wide-angle lenses. Because of the amount of glass in a telephoto lens, Ous Plus+ range will provide the best image quality.

What's the difference between circular and linear polarzing filters?

A circular polarizer blocks reflected light from any angle while a linear polarizer only blocks reflected light from one direction.

A CPL offers more versatility and works better with digital cameras. Both linear and circular polarizers look the same, and they both do the same thing – reduce reflections on non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass and wet surfaces, and they increase colour saturation too. A CPL filter is essentially a linear polariser with an extra glass element that allows you to adjust your lens filter to block polarised light from different directions.

Does a CPL affect my exposure?

Yes but only a little – 1.33 f-stops.

A CPL filter will reduce the amount of light reaching your sensor by about 2 f-stops.

What's a filter kit?

A consciously curated collection of lens filters designed to give you more creative possibilities in different conditions.

72 mm filter kit initial review

The kit is good value for the money and I am happy I went with the magnetic version. I didn't need the included UV filter but now that I have two I may just use the Urth UV filter and keep the other for a spare. I briefly tested all filters included in the kit and they seem to be good quality glass and metal, as well as nice fit and finish. I am ordering step up rings from another vendor to use this filter kit on my 67 mm lens.

Two suggestions for Urth; 1) carry a line of step up rings for one stop shopping, 2) provide a durable filter storage solution as the magnetic filters could easily become separated and damage each other if they are not kept in a durable fitted container.
